Omar Yehya and Alex Fritcher have been named Western Athletic Conference players of the week. Yehya was honored as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Fritcher received the Defensive Player of the Week award. The announcement was made Tuesday after a comeback win against Lindenwood; the pair having played crucial roles in helping the Wolverines stay undefeated in one of the best starts to a season in program history.

Yehya, a native of Redlands, California, has scored seven goals and added two assists in seven matches so far this season, primarily playing as a striker or drifting out wide as a winger. He recently tied the program record for consecutive games with a goal contribution, with seven.

Yehya, who has now won back-to-back Offensive Player of the Week awards, commented on his achievement: “It really feels good knowing I’m doing my part to contribute to this team’s success. This is a really deserving group, so I’m super glad to be a part of it. I hope all the boys feel proud when we receive these awards because every single one of us puts in the effort.”

Fritcher, a midfielder turned center back, has impressed in Utah Valley’s defense, starting six of seven matches this season. The Westlake High School alumnus has caught the attention of the league and won the Defensive Player of the Week award for the first time, taking over the honor from teammate Tom Dobek-Pietrowski.

Fritcher reflected on his award: “It’s always a good feeling to see all the hard work pay off and to have an impact on the historic run we’re having this season. This squad is a family, and I’m just lucky to be a part of it. I couldn’t have done it without the boys.”

Utah Valley players have now won six Player of the Week awards, with Fritcher joining Ben Williams, Yehya, and Dobek-Pietrowski in earning the award.
