Real Salt Lake has been struggling as of late, to say the least. However, things may be making a turn for the better. On June 13 RSL beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-0. This not only marks RSL’s first victory in eight matches, which they dominated in a 6-0 conquest over the New England Revolution, it is also their first and only win on the road this season.

‘Real’ Rough Start

The year after Real Salt Lake was just one win away from playing for the MLS cup, the team is now are struggling just to get on a winning track. As of June 5, RSL is 3-7-2 and things could not be going worse. Their last win came on April 25. The season started strong for RSL, winning three of their first five, but since scoring six goals against the New England Revolution they have not been able to get one in the win column.

In what seemed to be the first of Utah’s baseball-permitting weather of the season, the Wolverines’ offense was stellar and they beat in-state foe, the University of Utah 8-2. Utah Valley got off to a good start scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Utes would answer, scoring two in the top of the second off of two Wolverine errors and a sac fly.

As of March 26, the men’s baseball team is 6-14 on the season and has lost 10 of their last 11 games. It seems to have been a rough road trip for the Wolverines. The road trip started in Washington against Gonzaga, where the Wolverines struggled to get any momentum.

The Utah Valley Wolverines’ baseball team had their first home stand of the season, winning three and losing three against Northern Colorado and St. John’s. Utah Valley then flew to Spokane, Washington to face Gonzaga in a four-game series in which they were swept.

In what seems to be an end of an era, March 4 marked the end for Brett Ravenberg, Josh Olsen and the Utah Valley University legend that is Ryan Toolson. With a 38-point shellacking over Houston Baptist, the Wolverines would end their season on a very high note, winning 80-42.

It is certainly fitting that on Super Hero night at UVU it would be an epic battle between two formidable foes. And just like is seen in most super hero sagas, the good guys came out on top. A back-and-forth battle between two future Great West Conference teams, Utah Valley and Chicago State battled it out at the McKay Center and it came down to the wire with UVU winning 77-72.

The Wolverines wrapped up their last road trip of the season winning two out of the three games they played. Winning two of three is quite an accomplishment considering the Wolverines have had trouble on the road all season long. The wins give Utah Valley a 4-7 record on the road and a 14-10 overall record on the season.

With a countdown sign in the stands and Utah Jazz point guard and former Utah Valley standout Ronnie Price in the front row, as soon as the Wolverines took the court everyone new there was something in the atmosphere. Ryan Toolson reached the mark of scoring 2,000 career points on the way to a dominating 71-55 victory over the Lamar University Cardinals.
