At Utah Valley University, many may not know that there is a semi-pro basketball team playing at the McKay Events Center. The Utah Flash is a developmental basketball team whose NBA affiliates are the Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics. After 22 games in their season, the Utah Flash are 13-9 and sitting in third place in the Western Division behind the Bakersfield Jam and the first place Idaho Stampede.

The UVU men’s basketball team had three players score in double digits, but ultimately fell to the Mavericks of the University of Texas at Arlington, 75-64. Senior guard Ryan Toolson led all Wolverines with 17; senior center Brett Ravenberg set a new season high with 10 points, and sophomore forward Justin Baker had 10 points off the bench.

The Wolverines went 2-2 over the winter break, with wins coming against Southern Utah University and Norfolk State and losses against Utah State University and Montana State.

The Wolverines hosted the University of California-Santa Barbara Gauchos in their first homecoming game as a university. However it was not a great start, as the Gauchos would hand the Wolverines their second loss of the season, 62-57. “Santa Barbara came out very aggressive,” UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker said.

The story came to an end however when Real Salt Lake lost 1-0 to the New York Red Bulls last week. RSL fell short of playing for its first Major League Soccer Championship even though they were the aggressor throughout the entire game.
