A safe investment

With the frailty of the economy and the uncertainty in the stock market, the safest investment to put your whole soul into is sports. In a controlled setting you can invest your time, attention and passion into something you have no control over without the risk of substantial loss.

Basketball sneak peek

It’s not midnight madness, but the men?s and women?s basketball teams will be introduced and put on display in a meet-the-team event to be held Saturday Oct. 18, 2:00 p.m. at the Activities Center. Kicking things off the teams will have a scrimmage to showcase their skills before a free youth basketball clinic, and photo and autograph opportunities will cap things off.

Football frenzy eludes Wolverines

It’s no secret that UVU and its students miss out on the school-spirit-building euphoria that is college football. The lack of a football team on campus has been tackled numerous times and status on the issue remains the same: don’t hold your breath. In the meantime, however, there is no better way to spend your Saturday than taking it all in on a national level.

Home sweet home

Though UVU’s athletic teams have struggled on the road this season, their efforts at home have yielded significant success. At week’s end, both the women’s soccer and volleyball teams were undefeated at home, something that hasn’t always been the case for the Wolverines.

Miscue sinks RSL

What once was a team that was unbeatable at home and first in the Western Conference standings is now holding on to secure a playoff spot as Real Salt Lake enters the final stretch of the season. In last weeks 1-0 loss, Chivas USA snapped RSL’s home-unbeaten streak and dropped them from second in the west down into the middle of the tightly contested conference.

Great Falls knocks off defending champs Owlz

After an impressive season that saw the Orem Owlz cruise to the best record in the league, win 14 games in a row and put out the league MVP in Roberto Lopez, they dropped the third and final game of the Pioneer League championship series to lose the title to the Great Falls Voyagers.

Road Tested?

One thing that’s always plagued UVU has been winning on the road. As the women’s soccer team heads out on its first road trip and the volleyball team takes off for yet another tough trip, the records of both teams may suffer.

Unfortunately for the Wolverines the best example of struggling on the road happened to be last seasons women’s basketball team.

Owlz advance to Pioneer League finals

In the third and deciding game of the heated playoff series between instate foes the Orem Owlz staved off elimination by knocking off the pesky Ogden Raptors 9-7 Monday night behind Luis Jimenez’s five RBIs. With the win the Owlz moved on to face the Great Falls Voyagers in the Pioneer League Championship series.

Minor League Baseball on campus

If you’re a sports fan on the campus of UVU, you should be well aware of what has been taking place on the university baseball field all summer. But if you were born in a barn, here’s what you’ve been missing. Not only has the Utah Valley community been fortunate enough to have a Minor League baseball team playing nearby, it has one of the best and most consistent teams to boot.

Fast start vital for Wolverines

Like the sprinter quick out of the blocks, or the swimmer first into the water, a good start can make the difference between gold and silver. A sputtering Yugo finds itself too far behind to make up ground when drag racing a Ferrari. So, Utah Valley University’s women’s soccer team has pounced out of the gate early in the 2008 season.
