In last week’s issue, the UVU Review reported that the former School of H.A.S.S. has split into the College of H.A.S.S. and the School of Arts. For the latter, many departments face problems of space — problems that could be solved if new
facilities are built.
From May 24th to June 5th, the UVU Ballroom Team participated in the annual Open British Championship in Blackpool, England. The Open British Championship is analogous to the FIFA World Cup; it’s a crucial event for ballroom dancers all over the world. Every year hundreds of thousands of dancers travel to Blackpool to compete in several dance events.
In July, the school of humanities, arts & social sciences (HASS) divided into two different institutions, with most of the arts separating to form their own department.
At UVSC, all liberal arts programs existed within HASS. With the new university status, the school was split in two to create the college of humanities with six departments (English, history and political science, philosophy, etc.) while the school of arts incorporated the remaining four subjects (music, theater, dance and art & visual communication) as well as the Woodbury Museum, currently located at the Orem University Mall.
As I wander through the labyrinth of GT hallways, the question I keep asking is, “Where can I find the dance department?” And the answer I keep getting is, “Why on earth would dance be all the way over here in GT?”
For some students this summer, something awesome happened in Great Britain.
The Dark Knight is currently pushing for the second biggest blockbuster of all time in the United States (competing with Star Wars IV and Titanic) and has made over $700 million worldwide. So it’s doubtful that there are many people who haven’t seen it at least once. You may have walked out of the theater with amazement, but with a few questions. Here, then – with spoilers included, are some answers.
