Powerhouse team or fledgling upstart team, one thing is for certain–Every game matters. Though playing against the shorthanded Academy of Art University, UVU didn’t ease up on the upstart Urban Knights. Sharp-shooting Ryan Toolson and company opened up to set the mark for the Wolverines’ largest margin of victory this season to date as they defeated the Urban Knights 81-43.

Heavily recruited Ben Kjar is a perfect fit for UVU. Kjar, a sophomore from Centerville, sees wrestling strictly as a team sport, though he excels alone as an All-American. He started taking wrestling seriously when wrestling coach Greg Williams began training him.

Denver University simply could not survive. Especially when the Wolverines shot 56.4 percent from the field, a season-high 26 assists and 31 made field goals to give UVU two straight wins for the first time this season. Denver came out early with the hot hand, but the Wolverines played tight defense.

BYU took advantage of power plays, defeating the Wolverines 13-7 on Friday and 7-2 on Saturday. Both games the Cougars found the open seams in the Wolverines defense, scoring 20 goals after two games while UVU scored only nine. At Seven Peaks Arena on Saturday, BYU scored off a shot from the weak side in the first minute of the game.

Last Tuesday the women’s volleyball team swept Seattle University — the first time these two teams have met. When the game got close, the Wolverines played solid, not letting SU believe they could win a set, crushing any hopes of winning. Anytime SU cooked up a good streak UVU’s defense came up big to stop the attack.
