Utah Valley University Clubs is hosting a fundraiser All-Nighter event Jan. 30 in the Student and Activities center from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Proceeds will be given to the various clubs on campus that help to host the event. Kyle Brown,Vice President of UV Clubs, said that the proceeds will be divided by the man hours the different clubs volunteer during the night, so the more people who come, the more money the clubs receive.

Green Day rarely gains respect outside of the albums Dookie and American Idiot. But I have to respectfully disagree and claim that Nimrod is the album that proves the band’s importance. Although the tacky track, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” is probably the only track on the album still getting airplay, the album truly has some good tunes that were reluctantly looked over.

The Covey Center’s latest musical, Polly, is a family affair. The one-woman musical was written by Cedar Hills composer and playwright Steven Kapp Perry for his wife, Johanne Frechette Perry, about his great-great-great grandmother. Polly encompasses one woman’s entire lifetime of memories in two acts.

When Slumdog Millionaire was announced the winner of the Golden Globes for Best Picture, it was lavished with glowing Oscar predictions. But acclaimed novelist Salman Rushdie told the New York Times that he wasn’t a fan of the film, saying the storyline felt implausible, “And I’m the only person who thinks this,” he added.

Locally, the Sundance Film Festival is known for overcrowding Park City with rubberneckers on the prowl for celebrity sightings. The chance of getting into film screenings is usually slim – even if do you hold out in the freezing cold wait-list lines. However, this year was a little different than expected.

Room Service, a Broadway hit from the late 1930’s, is currently running as a fast paced comedy at the Hale Centre Theater in Orem. The story is about the sneaky producer Gordon Miller (played by Reese Purser) and how he and his cast of actors in carry out a variety of shenanigans.

The way back home is different for everyone, but in the new book Home by Marilynne Robinson, it is the same road readers traveled on with Robinson’s Pulitzer Prize winning book, Gilead, but from a different angle. A companion piece to Gilead, Home reacquaints readers with the lives of certain members of the small town of Gilead, Iowa.

Starting this Friday, the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy will showcase hundreds of new 2009-model vehicles. As well as alternative fuel vehicles, classics, and exotic cars at the 2009 Utah International Auto Expo. Domestic and Import Manufacturers from Pontiac to Porsche will be represented at the expo, which continues until Jan.

Every time I eat one of my typically modest-budget meals, I always find myself thanking heaven I’m too pathetic to have a car. To be sure, I’m more pathetic for not having a license. It’s a long story involving some eggs, a wedding and a car chase, but in high school I never got that special privilege to drive.
