Rock royalty often grants the Deal sisters and their band, the Breeders, status and respect amongst its elites. Kim Deal, having been the bassist for the legendary Pixies, ensures that the group at least has a consideration in this category. But the Breeders, with their sporadic releases, have also managed to earn their own admirers, inspiring one band to write the song “Cool As Kim Deal.” And, indeed, cool she is.
On June 21 at 8 p.m. when local band Chris Merritt releases their second album, Pixie and the Bear, at the Velour Live Music Gallery in Provo, you’ll be getting an indie rock show and a free barbecue — two out of the three things that make summer in Utah tolerable, and that isn’t bad.

As one of the first titles for the Nintendo Wii’s new downloadable game service, “Lost Winds” is the story of the spirit of the wind named Enril and her fight against one of her evil, older brothers. As spirits in video games tend to do, Enril enlists the aid of a small and fearless-bordering-on-suicidal boy who, in this case, is named Toku.

What can be said about Iron Man that you haven’t already heard from your friends? Nothing, really. It’s all that everyone’s cracked it up to be. It’s fun, visually amazing, it’s got a great story, and it’s 100% entertaining.
The post-hardcore-punk sages NOFX came through SLC on May 3 at In The Venue. The audience was pretty excited because “NOFX hasn’t played a club in Salt Lake City in like 5 years,” according to frontman Fat Mike. Although all the excited fans in attendance expected a good show, they were about to be delightfully surprised on a bigger scale.
