UVU rodeo team fares well in St. George

Riders and ropers on the UVU rodeo team rode the red dirt of St. George last weekend in their first rodeo of the spring season. The men’s and women’s teams placed fourth and third respectively, featuring several first-place finishes by UVU cowboys. Bareback rider Connor Kent took first in his event; despite being knocked unconscious both nights during his bareback and saddle bronc rides.

Triple double and back-to-back 40-point games

The lady Wolverines were anchored by back-to-back 40 point games by Robyn Fairbanks last week, both against New Jersey Institute of Technology. In the second game, Julie McMurray recorded the first triple-double in school history with 19 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds.

The wrestling team has much to be happy about this year, what with breaking the school record by going 11-3 and 4-1 in conference, and now can look back on a great year and onto a bright future. The Wolverines finished second in the Western Wrestling Conference and made exceptional improvements.

It is certainly fitting that on Super Hero night at UVU it would be an epic battle between two formidable foes. And just like is seen in most super hero sagas, the good guys came out on top. A back-and-forth battle between two future Great West Conference teams, Utah Valley and Chicago State battled it out at the McKay Center and it came down to the wire with UVU winning 77-72.

Fairbanks Gets 1,000th Rebound in Final Road Game Robyn Fairbanks became the first Utah Valley player to reach 1,000 career rebounds in the Wolverines’ (13-10) 90-75 loss at North Dakota State on Monday night. She entered the game needing eight rebounds to reach the mark and got number 1,000 with 1:25 left in the first half.

Leipheimer wins third straight The recent conclusion of the Tour of California ended up with American Levi Leipheimer attaining his third straight victory in the event. He defeated Utah native David Zabriskie by a large margin of 36 seconds. Leipheimer took the yellow jersey on stage two after a breakaway ride where he finished second, but gave him the overall lead.

Dick Hunsaker is the head coach of the UVU men’s basketball team. In his seven seasons as the Wolverines’ head coach, Hunsaker has posted an impressive 134-68 record. A telling example of Hunsaker’s success was the 2001 University of Utah basketball team.
