There’s no business like show business

As fall begins and the monotony of school sets in, it is time to spice things up and attend a live show at the SCERA in Orem. Hear it live: We Shot The Moon

Sometimes, a song comes along that makes you want to hear it live. This is definitely the case with the music of We Shot The Moon, a San Diego-based indie piano rock group that will be performing Sept. 14 at Velour. Semester at sea

Dr. Daniel Horns, chair of the Earth Science department, recently returned from a nine-week summer semester abroad teaching geology for the University of Virginia’s Semester at Sea program. Complete with wireless internet, an 8000-volume library, a faculty lounge and even a merchandise store, the MV Explorer is a passenger ship that circumnavigates the globe twice a year for fall and spring semesters and explores a world region each summer.

Flying Wolverines

The UVU Aviation Club is hosting a barbeque Sept. 17, 2009 for the organization’s annual opening social. Students are invited to come mingle with professional and student pilots and to tour UVU’s facilities at the Provo airport. Students can check out airplanes as well as have any questions about piloting careers answered.

Local Briefs: Sandy may implement restrictions on adult shops The Sandy City Council may issue a zoning ordinance to restrict the location of stores selling alcohol and tobacco. The council will limit the distribution of permits to adult shops in an attempt to steer them away from areas highly populated by children, such as near schools.

UVU assists in its second Habitat for Humanity home

On Thursday, Sept. 3, building construction students and Habitat for Humanity of Utah County (HFHUC) came together to break ground for the partnership’s second home. In spring 2008, the Rico family received the first Habitat for Humanity home, built in part by the UVU Department of Construction Management.

He’s not as mean as Dirty Harry but not as soft as Barney Fife, but UVU’s own Chief of Police John C. Brewer is the man in charge here on campus. From theft to risk management, he means business. Chief Brewer has been at UVU for a little over two years, but has been a police officer since 1973.
