A year to remember

The first year of schooling at Utah Valley University approaches an end after many ups, downs and everything in between. The transition took a concerted effort on the part of many people, no one person deserving much more credit than another. The reality of university status is upon this institution after all the effort; as much effort will be requisite to carry the university to elite status.

Senior athletes leave their mark

Every spring hundreds of students at Utah Valley University make the glorious walk through the McKay Center, dressed in their sleek robes in order to receive their diplomas — four years of hard work finally paying off. Each senior, through strenuous effort, has done their best to leave their mark at UVU.

UVU fight song

Most UVU students could sing BYU’s, Notre Dame’s or Michigan State’s, but many seem ignorant of their own university’s fight song. It seems more than likely that a good number of them aren’t even aware that UVU has a fight song. The school’s fight song has actually been around for about 25 years.

Ashley Robertson What is your major and emphasis? English major with emphasis in Literature What was your best UVU moment? My best moment at UVU was during a class lecture when my professor got so passionate about the subject that they threw themselves against the wall and accidentally cracked it.

Engaging the UVU Campus

The first annual Scholarship of Teaching and Engagement Conference was held on Monday April 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesday April 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. The conference, sponsored by the Faculty Center, Faculty Senate and Center for Engaged Learning was themed “Learning as a Community: UVU’s Engaged Teaching Strategies.

Arthur Laffer visits UVU

Arthur Laffer, a prominent economist during the Regan administration, spoke to a group of about 200 students last Wednesday about the current economic climate. Following a long history of U.S. economic policy, Laffer reveled in his memories working with Reagan, calling him, “The only real president,” while tapping on his chest and swooning, “Ah, Ronny.

UVU’S PBL STUDENTS WIN AT STATE For the second year in a row, Utah Valley University’s Phi Beta Lambda won the traveling trophy for the most awards won with 47 and was named the Most Outstanding Chapter at the annual Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference held April 3-4 in Ogden.

Police beat April 2009

April 2nd – Theft – A wallet was stolen from the men’s PE locker room. April 6th – Man with gun – UVU Police responded to the Liberal Arts building on a report of a male that had reportedly dropped a weapon which had been in his backpack, and then picked it up and returned it to his bag.
