First annual UVolunteer week to take place

As part of the clubs and organizations involved with the UVU service coalition, the first annual UVolunteer week will take place March 30 through April 4. “It is an effort to create more traditions at UVU, and especially to help students form a lifelong tradition of volunteering,” said Richard Portwood, president of UVU service council.

Dental hygiene students take first place for smoking research

A team of Utah Valley University dental hygiene students recently received first-place honors for their research and presentation on third-hand smoke at the annual Utah Dental Association convention in Salt Lake City. Each year, dental hygiene schools across the state compete for honors at the conference through their respective table clinic presentations on various topics in oral health.

Students donate to save classmates

Due to state budgetary cuts, more than 230 UVU student financial scholarships will be sacrificed. In response, the UVU Student Alumni Board (SAB) is asking for every student on campus to donate $1 in order to keep their classmates in school. The “Giving of the Green” campaign, which began March 9 and will continue through March 17, has set up donation tables around campus.

Several students gathered in the Sorenson Student Center last week as faculty members from the math department assisted students in building the Zome. The Zome, a multicolored structure consisting of interlocking sticks, and which in its finished state is a four-dimensional sphere, requires its builders to think strategically and in a pattern.

Turkmen leaders visit Utah
