When a year comes to an end and a new one begins, we tend to survey the past year’s accomplishments and failures. Looking back over 2007, we see that it has been a remarkable year for our beloved Utah Valley State College. From Senate Bill 70 and the Fulton challenge to new degrees and greater enrollment, UVSC has seen it’s fair share of triumphs.

Jefferson S. Burton, a former UVSC ROTC instructor, was recently promoted to brigadier general in a ceremony on Jan 10.

UVSC’s English department-sponsored literary journal, Touchstones, has a long history of distinction, and is looking for student submissions for publication in the next edition.

Students have the chance to have a voice by voting in Utah’s presidential primary elections on Feb 5 also known as Super Tuesday. On Feb 4 and 5, student government will have a table in the student center hall to help any of those who are unsure on how to go vote.

Campus safety issues have been on the minds of students across the county the past few months. One issue that is a main concern among UVSC students is feeling secure at night around campus.

UVSC students, along with dignitaries from across the state, were among the prestigious guests that attended the Utah state capitol rededication celebrations during the first week in January.

Henry, along with owner Rhonda Kamper, visited UVSC’s campus to help promote animal cruelty awareness and to help get a petition signed to show support for Henry’s Law, also known as SB 102.

Last week’s devotional, given by Chad Lewis, was a moment for students and faculty alike to be given the opportunity to learn something new and enjoy listening to remarks. For those who missed this devotional, students are invited to attend the next, featuring UVSC President William A. Sederburg.
