Coaching a college basketball team for more than a few years is a rare feat these days.Utah Valley women’s coach Cathy Nixon is one of those who are defying the stereotypes of college coaches as she starts her 13th season at the helm of the Wolverines.Ultimately, Nixon’s commitment to the program stretches to 17 years, as she assisted for four years before taking charge.

Home field advantage is supposed to help a team, but until the women’s soccer team played a couple of United Soccer Conference games at the end of the season on Wolverine Field, the comforts of home weren’t doing the job. Before Utah Valley’s game against the New Jersey Institute of Technology, a 5-0 Wolverine win, the team was outscored 10-1 on its home turf.
