The Red Cross will host their fifth annual Run for Red 5K and one mile fun run on Saturday, March 8. All proceeds from the event will benefit local disaster relief efforts sponsored by the chapter.
The fundraiser comes at a critical time for the non-profit organization.
The chapter, which relies entirely on donations and grants to assist disaster victims, has already responded to numerous disasters this year.
The money raised from this event last year was immediately put to work in the community, helping the Red Cross to respond to disasters all over Utah, including the Crandall Canyon mine disaster, the 300,000 acre fire in Fillmore, and the fires in Juab, Sanpete and Provo Canyons. In all of those instances, the Mountain Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross was there to provide assistance.
This year’s event will begin 10 a.m. at Independence High School in Provo.
The cost of the race is $20 for adults, and $15 for students or children. Day-of-race registration is $25.
All pre-registered participants will receive an official race t-shirt, and breakfast will be available. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each race, and there will be a raffle drawing for all participants.
Registration is available in person at 865 N. Freedom Blvd. or on the event’s Web site. For more information please call (801) 373-8580 or visit www.runforred.org
