In response to the downward economic spiral of the U.S., 16 artists documented the traumatic effects it has had on citizens and on the country through their artwork. On display at the Springville Museum of Art through April 25, the exhibit, titled “Hard Times: An Artist’s View” compels observers to face the dejected reality in which we now live while inspiring empathy for fellow human beings. This exhibit goes past mere visual appeal and illusion to focus on actual circumstances with historic moral appeal. These pieces account for the many forgotten faces within this era of economic meltdown. The participating artists, who have made this artistic social commentary a priority include: Steven Assael, Garin Baker, Warren Chang, Sean Diediker, Harvey Dinnerstein, Max Ginsburg, Jeffrey Hein, David Jon Kassan, David Linn, Mary Beth McKenzie, Denis Peterson, Mario Andres Robinson, Burton Silverman, Gary Ernest Smith, Trevor Southey and Justin Taylor.
