Google Fiber is ready for launch
It’s finally here (sort of)! Google Fiber will now be accepting sign-ups for their fiber-optic gigabit Internet service in Provo.
Before you all go flooding their server, here’s what you need to know. These early sign-ups are only for current, residential customers of Veracity. If that’s you, and you’re ready to get started, then go to google.com/fiber/provo, enter your address and select which package you’d like (Gigabit Internet, Gigabit + TV, or Free Internet).
In order to receive early access, you are required to sign up before October 31. For the rest of us, sign-ups begin in January.
Provo Mayor John Curtis announced that Google Fiber is on its way in mid-April. Since then, Provo residents have been abuzz with the prospect of having Internet speeds almost 100x faster than the average broadband connection.
The news was a boost of morale for the local tech scene, which saw it as a vote of confidence from the Silicon Valley company. Provo was the third city in the US to receive the Google Fiber service, after Kansas City and Austin, TX.
Google Fiber service will include Internet speeds up to 1,000 Mbps, a TV service with almost 200 HD channels, a terabyte of cloud storage for all of your Google products and a Nexus 7 tablet. The service will cost residents $120 per month.
