Lewis Knecht, one of the top high school soccer players in Utah, has officially committed to Utah Valley University. Knecht, coming off a state championship season where he contributed 37 goals and assists combined, is expected to be a major addition to the UVU soccer program. The commitment marks a pivotal moment in his career as he joins his brother Owen – who is currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – at Utah Valley.

Knecht, a class of 2025 student at American Fork High School, has made headlines as a state champion and stands out on the field. He has received numerous accolades, including Deseret News Mr. Soccer, Deseret News 6A All-State Team honors, and setting school records for most goals (20) and assists (17) in a single season. He also holds the record for most assists in a match, with five.

Knecht’s standout attributes include his speed, ball control, composure, playmaking ability, and an eye for goal, which have underscored his potential to succeed at the collegiate level.

When asked why he chose Utah Valley, Knecht cited several reasons, “Honestly, I committed to UVU for many reasons, but here are my top three. First, the coaching staff and current team made me feel really valued and trusted during my visit. I’ve been watching their games this season, and they’ve been performing really well. I think their style of play fits perfectly with mine.”

“Second, my whole life, I’ve followed the UVU program and watched my older brother, Owen, play there. There’s no better feeling than getting to play for my hometown team, just 15 minutes away, in front of my friends and family.

“Lastly, the new stadium is incredible, and I’m really excited to play in it. It’s going to bring a lot of attention to the soccer program from all over the country, and it’s great to see how well the soccer team is taken care of at UVU.”
