No excuses
Students have opportunities knocking on their door reminding them to stay healthy.
There are plenty of opportunities on campus to help students improve their health. These services include personal weekly health coaching, free food samples, massages, Zumba and yoga classes, gym facilities and more.
“I think a lot of students come to college and they’re not required to take a fitness class anymore, mom’s not cooking for them anymore, they’re out on their own and a lot of the health habits go out the window,” said Amy Grubbs, director of UVU Wellness Programs. “We want college students to have fun and to enjoy their college experience, but to be healthy at the same time.”
According to Grubbs, some of their most popular wellness programs in the Student Engagement Center include Eat Well recipes and food samples every Tuesday and Wednesday, one-on-one health counseling and back and foot massages on Thursdays.
Many students enjoy the Never Diet Again weight management program. Other personal programs offered are Nutrition Strategies, Keys to Happiness and Stress Less.
The program fees are $35 each and provide weekly personal meetings with a Health & Wellness Coach for one hour. Students can find detailed information for these programs and more at www.uvu.edu/wellnessed.
Also, free yoga and Zumba classes are offered every day. For their fall semester schedule students can call, 801-863-8127 or 801-863-6481.
The school also has two cardio rooms, free weight room, and racquetball and basketball courts available for students. To gain access to these, students will need to wear a UVU shirt from the front desk outside the gym rooms in the Physical Education building. Students need to bring a UVU ID and leave it at the front desk, and towels are free of charge.
The locker room is well equipped with showers and lockers. Students can rent a locker for the semester for $5. Students can purchase a racquetball to keep for $2 and can rent racquets for $2 as well.
Hours of the gym during this fall semester at from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
