Occupy Oakland strike turns violent

The peaceful movement that started in Oakland Wednesday headed towards hostility early Thursday and ended on quite a different note early this morning after teargas, rubber bullets and flash grenades from local police.

According to reports from the Oakland Tribune, the non-violent strike was started Wednesday by an estimated 7,000, but turned violent and after protestors “took over a vacant building and police moved in.”

The violence ended after 3:00 a.m. when the protestors, part of the 99 percent from the Occupy Wall street movement that also visited Provo, decided, after the busy shipping port and many banks had been shut down and between 30 and 40 people were arrested, that a victory had been reached.
