Yes, softball is his life. That is one thing that makes Todd Fairbourne such a great coach. He is our hero for the week. Here is what he had to say:

Q: What is your position at UVU?

A: I am the head softball coach and have worked here at Utah Valley since 1992. I was named the softball coach in 1997, did not coach for the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons to serve as assistant athletic director over media and facilities, then returned to the head coaching position in fall of 2004.

Q: What made you want to coach softball?

A: I didn’t really set out to be a coach. I was the assistant sports info director here while helping with the softball team. Upon finishing my master’s degree, I left coaching to pursue administration — what I planned on — but when the school began its transition to Division I athletics, my competitive bone got the best of me, and things worked out for me to return to coaching.

Q: What do you feel has been your greatest success while at UVU?

A: We won the Junior College National Title in 2000, the only national title, in any sport, that the school has ever won.

Q: Besides softball, what do you like to do in your spare time?

A: I still play a lot of softball myself. Yes, it’s my life. My wife and I also play a lot of coed leagues. I love spending time with my kids and my wife. I’m also a professional and college sports junkie.

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about your family?

A: I am married to the former Ms. Tiffany Weight of Springville, Utah. We have two children, a boy, C.J., 3, and Morgan, a girl, 6. I also have two daughters, Ashley, 16, and Danielle, 9, from a previous marriage. All four are my world.

Q: If there was one message you could get out to UVU students, faculty and
staff, what would it be?

A: Assuming you are asking this relative to the athletic program, I would say, be excited and supportive of the school’s athletic programs.
