The Entrepreneur’s Club is participating in the annual Opportunity Quest business plan competition, which offers prizes up to $3,000 for finalists, who then go to the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge competition to compete for up to $40,000 in prize money.

“You learn more about writing a business plan by doing a competition than by reading a bunch of books,” said Pete Robinson, entrepreneurship professor and mentor for the E-Club.

In the Opportunity Quest competition, student teams construct a fully developed business plan, complete with marketing strategies, management structure and projected revenue. If a team’s business plan is solid enough to win the prize money, they now have the funding necessary to embark upon the very business venture they presented.

The deadline for Opportunity Quest registration was Oct. 22, 2008. However, if you feel confident enough, you can register directly for the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge anytime before Jan. 31, 2009.

“The Challenge gives students in the state of Utah a great chance to turn hobbies, experiments, and dreams into successful ventures,” said Mitt Romney about the competition on the Entrepreneur Challenge Web site.
