A letter from UVU Athletics:

Welcome back Wolverines!

The summer flew by and we are excited to get back into action this fall with another season of top-flight NCAA Division I competition. Soccer is already underway and volleyball hits the court in the coming days with cross-country soon to follow.

I want to take this opportunity to invite each and every one of you to become a part of Utah Valley University athletics for the 2010-11 season. UVU competes at the highest level of NCAA athletics, Division I, and it’s the students that can make this a great collegiate atmosphere and experience.

During this coming school year, our athletes will compete against universities like Oregon State, Cincinnati, Fresno State, Arizona State, Missouri, Texas Tech, Maryland and Washington State, as well as the five additional Division I schools in Utah.

A couple of games in particular that we’re excited about this year is when our men’s basketball team hosts both Utah State and Florida International, a team coached by NBA legend, champion and Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas.

In the 2009-10 season, UVU teams won 10 different conference regular season and tournament championships. Our Wolverine baseball team had the highest batting average of all 292 Division I baseball teams in the country, higher than any Pac-10, SEC, ACC or Mountain West school.

We scored wins over ranked teams in volleyball (no. 17, Utah) and in wrestling (no. 8, Boise State). Both wins were here on campus and both wins can be attributed to having 2,000 roaring fans and students in the crowd. Your support does not go unnoticed.

I invite you to become an involved member of the UVU student section, the Mighty Athletic Wolverine League (MAWL). The cost is minimal — just $5 — and gets you into each and every home athletic event, free food at tailgates and the chance to catch the full collegiate experience.

Become engaged in the college life. Be serious about your time and purpose here, but also take the time to achieve that inclusive collegiate experience. And get to know your fellow classmates that represent you and this university.

Get your school colors on, come out to the games and cheer on the Mighty Green. Go Wolverines!
