Utah Valley University loses to BYU in the last game of the invitational Saturday night. Even after a valiant effort by the Wolverines the No. 10 Cougars still swept UVU with scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-16.

The first set was marked by BYU taking an early 3-0 lead, but the Wolverines battled back determined to not lose an other match this tournament. Both teams exchanged runs with the Cougars holding a comfortable lead majority of the time despite UVU’s best efforts. The set ended by Whitney Young and Camry Willardson teaming up to bock what looked like a promising UVU kill attempt and secured the win for BYU.

An exchanging of points started off the second set as nothing much besides even volleys took place. Eventually BYU had a kill that sparked a 4-0 run and jumpstarted the set for the Cougars. The lady Wolverines stayed competitive by rallying from a 15-6 deficit to close the score down to within four points at 19-15. The Cougars would have none of that and kept their momentum closing out with a set score of 25-18.

It looked like the lady Cougars didn’t like how competitive UVU was playing in the second set and came to the court with power in the third. Jumping to a quick lead by five the Cougars even brought the score to doubling that of UVU, 16-8. The Wolverines found a small rally to bring the score to 16-12 and it looked like they were going to keep it up. Amy Boswell and Jennifer Hamson placed some expert kills for the Cougars and effectively halted UVU’s run. A service error by the Wolverines ended the set and the match with BYU winning.

The lady Wolverines will take the court on Tuesday, September 9th at 7:00p.m. MT as they face off against Utah.
