ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – On Sept. 20, Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead in his home.

A female friend discovered McKinley’s body Monday afternoon when she returned to his home after running an errand with his young son, Keon.

It was announced Sept. 21 by Arapahoe County Coroner, Michael Dobersen, that McKinley died of a gunshot wound to the head and after a preliminary investigation, “suggests the wound to be self-inflicted.”

During a news conference held Sept. 21, Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels commented that nobody in the organization saw any trace that McKinley was suicidal.

The team decided to leave McKinley’s locker in place throughout the rest of the season, paying tribute to their teammate.
