Marty McFly was right about flat screen television videoconferences, virtual reality sunglasses, and even self-lacing shoes, but it seems that even Doc Brown couldn’t predict the future when it came to the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series.

After defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 in the National League Division Series 3 to 1, the Chicago Cubs are getting ready for the offseason after receiving an embarrassing defeat from the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series. The Mets were able to sweep the Cubs in their best-of-seven series, 4-0. Despite Kyle Schwarber’s excellent performance this October with an average of .333 and a team record five home runs in a postseason, the Mets were still able to outscore the Cubs 21-8 in the four-game sweep.

The Cubs finish the season 29th in team batting average at .244, 15th in runs at 689, 12th in on-base percentage at .321 and third in the National League with a record of 97-65.

Daniel Murphy, the NLCS MVP, helped the Mets win the series by going 9-17 for an average of .529 while also hitting four home runs in four straight games. Murphy set the all-time mark for home runs in consecutive playoff games with six. His last homer came in the eighth inning of game four against Cubs reliever Fernando Rodney.

“I can’t explain why the balls keep going out of the ballpark but they do,” Murphy said in a statement to ESPN. “And we keep winning ballgames which is the most important part and the coolest part.”

Lucas Dada had a standout night in game four by hitting a three-run home run in the first inning and followed it up in the second inning with a 2-run double.

The New York Mets will have some time off to rest as the Royals and Blue Jays finish up the American League Championship Series. The Mets are hoping that the small reprieve will be enough time to allow center fielder Yoenis Cespedes to rest his sore shoulder. Cespedes has played a crucial role for the Mets offense with an average of .328 on the season. He also had seven RBIs and two HR in the last week.

The Mets will play the winner of the Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays. The Royals lead 3-2 and the look to finish the series Friday October 23. The winner of the ALCS will face off against the New York Mets on Tuesday October 27.
