Phoenix, AZ — The Utah Valley University women’s soccer struggles on the road continued Friday night as they dropped a 1-0 contest to Grand Canyon University at the Grand Canyon Soccer Field in Western Athletic Conference women’s soccer action.
The loss drops the Wolverines to 11-5-1, 6-1-1 in WAC play. Grand Canyon improves to 7-8-2, 4-3-1 in WAC play.
Madison Cox scored the only goal of the match on a free kick by by McKenzie Cook in the 19th minute and it held up the rest of the way for GCU.
Although the Wolverines outshot the Lopes 15-7, they just couldn’t put it in the back of the net for the equalizer.
“We started the game slowly today and it took us too long to recover from that,” said Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson in a statement given to wolverinegreen.com. “The team regrouped well at halftime and showed a lot of character to create some excellent scoring opportunities but couldn’t find the equalizer. The good thing is we are fired up and ready to compete on Sunday.”
UVU looks to bounce back when they travel to take on CSU Bakersfield on Sunday with kickoff at 12 p.m. MT and it will be live on the WAC Digital Network.
