The Utah Valley softball team competed at the Colorado State Invitational Mar. 5-7 in Fort Collins, Colorado but fell short in five games against Utah State, Colorado State and North and South Dakota State.

The invitational began with the Wolverines taking on in-state rival Utah State on Mar. 5. The Aggies scored a quick five runs in the second inning, giving them an early lead. The Wolverines came into the bottom of the second at zero but scored three runs to put themselves in the game.

The Wolverines brought in a single run in the third and fourth but not enough to match the Aggies’ three runs in the third and runs in the sixth and seventh, giving them the 10-8 win. That same day, the Wolverines went up against Colorado State and lost 12-3.

Day two of the Invitational ended the same as day one. Utah Valley played North Dakota State and South Dakota State.

First on the schedule was North Dakota who scored 10 runs in five and a half innings and held Utah Valley at zero. The Wolverines scored six from there, but couldn’t catch North Dakota, losing 12-6. In the second game of the day, Utah Valley took a 6-5 loss to South Dakota State.

The final day of the Invitational, Utah Valley had a chance to redeem its earlier loss to North Dakota the prior day with another competition against them. The Wolverines scored two runs in the second inning off a two-run homer by Senior Megan Kisner.

North Dakota answered back with three runs in the bottom of the third, but Utah Valley tied it up in the top of the fourth. North Dakota brought in three more runs in the fourth and a single run in the fifth to secure them the 7-3 win.

Utah Valley will travel to Los Angeles this week to compete in the LMU Invitational March 18-20. The Wolverines will meet North Dakota again in two games and will also play Bucknell and Loyola Marymount.

The Wolverines will not play at home again until Mar. 30, when they will take on in-state rival Utah State for the second time this season.
