Favre moving to the Northeast
After reporting to Green Bay Packers training camp last week future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Brett Favre made it clear that he wouldn’t be playing for his former team this coming season. Upon his arrival in Green Bay, Favre and coach Mike McCarthy met and discussed his future with the team before both decided it was best for Favre to move on.
Shortly after Favre asked to be released, a deal was completed that will send him to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick which will depend a lot on how Favre performs. As of now Green Bay receives a fourth round pick from the Jets, but if Favre plays a healthy amount and if the Jets make the playoffs, that pick could become a third, second or even a first round selection.
Manny changes coasts at trade deadline
In a blockbuster deal pulled off just before the Major League trade deadline, Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez was sent to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-team deal that included the Pittsburgh Pirates. After Ramirez helped lead the Red Sox to World Series championships in 2004 and 2006, the organization grew tired of his antics and finally opted to deal the slugger. In return, Boston gets outfielder Jason Bay from the Pirates, and a slew of Minor Leaguers will be headed to the Pirates and Red Sox.
