Coast Guard calls off search for missing NFL players
After three days of searching over 24,000 square miles of ocean off the coast of Florida, the Coast Guard called off the search for Raiders linebacker Marcus Cooper, free agent defensive lineman Corey Smith and former South Florida player William Bleakley. One of the boaters, Nick Schuyler, managed to stay with the boat and was rescued. The weather was so bad that as they tried to raise the anchor, the boat capsized. They managed to get life vests, but the waves were so powerful that the three missing could not hold onto the boat.
