Omar Yehya Breaks UVU Record for Fastest Goal with 14-Second Strike
Utah Valley University senior captain Omar Yehya set a new program record for the fastest goal scored, finding the back of the net just 14 seconds into the Oct. 5 match at Clyde Field against WAC opponent, San Jose State.
Yehya shattered the previous record of 1:06, which was set eight years ago by former Wolverine forward Skyler Milne.
The record-breaking goal came immediately after kickoff, as Yehya and teammate Gilles Aurelien applied pressure to the San Jose State backline. Aurelien intercepted a poor pass and quickly played Yehya through on goal, where the captain had just enough time to blast a shot into the net to give UVU a 1-0 lead.
The Wolverines erupted in celebration, running to the corner to embrace the moment.
“It just felt good to reward the team for all the hard work we have been doing on our opening exchanges,” Yehya said. “Our staff did a great job all week preparing us for a fast start, so to see it come to fruition was awesome. Now we have more experience under our belt and can add that to our arsenal as we look to put together some complete performances.”
Yehya is having a career-best season with 11 goals and two assists, including three matches with a brace, but along with that, he is also a top-five goal scorer in the country. As the Wolverines’ captain, he shows no signs of slowing down and continues to lead the team as they push for a strong finish to the season.
