Soccer scrimmages under new stadium lights to kick off season
The Wolverines soccer team showcased their new look Friday night at the annual Green and White game. Team Green won the exhibition game with a 2-1 score.
The Green team exploded into action early in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals, each coming in a single minute of each other.
Freshman Lexi Robison scored a header goal off a corner kick. Senior Ashlee Burdett scored immediately after on a shot caming off a pass from Jamie Lyons.
Burdett was excited to get out and play the first game.
“I thought it was really exciting, especially being out here at night,” Burdett said. “It’s a great opportunity to make each other better.”
Coach Brent Anderson was impressed with Green team’s performance.
“I think they had good dynamic attacks,” Anderson said. “They were more patient, in building it up.”
Action had started early with White team scoring a goal in the first two minutes of play. Freshman Maddie Adams found the back of the net off a pass from Haley Curtis.
The White team was mainly composed of defense players and the Green offensive players. Anderson was pleased with both team’s performances.
“Some of them have not played together before,” Anderson said. “They played very well together…we can still improve on communication and spacing.”
This was also the inaugural game under the new lights. Anderson and the team enjoyed the new experience.
“Fun. Just fun, especially when the sun goes down, it’s beautiful,” Anderson said. “It cools off out here. We’re very grateful to have this facility”.
Monday the Wolverines will head to Westminster for an exhibition game. Game time is set for 1:00 pm MST.
