Utah Valley men’s basketball wins, extends school record win streak to 11 games
Utah Valley extended their winning streak to 11 games and improved their overall record to 18-10 and 8-0 in Great West Conference play after a 70-60 win over Montana Tech on Monday.
The Wolverines were led in scoring in the first half by Ben Aird and Holton Hunsaker, who scored 11 and 9 points respectively. The highlight of the first half came after a putback dunk by Keith Thompson that helped to get the crowd into the game. In the first half the Wolverines did the little things like diving on the floor to recover lose balls as well as coming up with steals that led to easy baskets.
“I thought our effort has been good,” head coach Dick Hunsaker said. “Our guys try. They’re winners, they’re competitors, and they make a lot of good decisions on the court as evidenced tonight by a season low four turnovers.”
The second half of the game belonged to two players. Keith Thompson scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half that included a break away dunk that got the crowd out of their seats. Ben Aird scored 14 of his 25 in the second half to go along with 10 rebounds as he helped UVU pull away for the 10-point win.
“I think that’s the ultimate goal is to improve everyday and get better through out the season,” Aird said. “My teammates have been putting me in position to success and working hard in practice and listening to what coach has to say has helped with my progress.”
The Wolverines next home game will be at the UCCU Center on Thursday, Feb. 23 against Houston Baptist.
