UVU golf stands out at recent competition

Utah Valley men’s and women’s golf teams both competed in Arizona this past week, April 5-6, with the men finishing in eighteenth place and the women finishing in sixteenth.

The Wolverine men competed at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale Ariz. while the Wolverine women competed at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Chandler Ariz.

On day one for the men, freshman Dane Christensen finished one under par at 69, while freshman teammates Noah Cook and Jeff Homes finished at an even par of 70.

Christensen lead the Wolverines again on day two, shooting a 72 and finishing the classic which tied him for twenty-eighth place while Cook shot three over par finishing at 73 for the day.

Day one for the women saw the team finish with one of its best team scores in school history in the opening round, shooting 311 as a team.

Senior Erika Baldwin shot a 78 in the opening round and improved by a shot by the end of the afternoon while junior Abbie Lei Archibald finished the first day with 76.

Day two for the women brought out a sixteenth place finish in the classic while the Wolverines were lead by Baldwin and sophomore teammate Monica Fox as they both tied for forty-fifth place in the classic.
Fox led the Wolverines in the last round finishing with a 77 on day two while teammates Archiblad and Brittany Butler shot 79.

Both the men and women will be back in action this week. The Women will compete against Southern Utah next on April 12-13 while the men will compete locally on April 23-24 at the Ping Cougar Classic in Provo this weekend.
