Bakersfield, CA — The Utah Valley University men’s soccer team outshot the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners on Sunday afternoon at the Main Soccer Field but the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
It was the first draw of the season for the Wolverines whose record is now 11-3-1, 4-1-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.
“I am very pleased with our performance today. We created solid scoring chances, and our tactical commitment for 110 minutes was fantastic,” UVU head coach Greg Maas said in a statement to wolverinegreen.com. “Recovery is now our priority as we prepare for two difficult matches on the road at GCU and UNLV.”
The Wolverines took 14 shots compared to just 9 for the ‘Runners. Six of those shots came on goal including a shot taken by UVU forward Karson Payton in the 61st minute that hit the post. Bakersfield goalkeeper Nicolas Clever made all five of his saves in the second half of play to keep the clean sheet. UVU goalkeeper Collin Partee made three saves on the day to record another shutout.
The Wolverines will be on the road next weekend as they travel to Phoenix to face off against Grand Canyon on Friday evening October 23 and then Sunday October 25 they take on defending WAC champion UNLV in Las Vegas.
