UVU Volleyball is back and in full swing. As part of the Utah Valley Invitational, the Wolverines had a dominant performance versus Eastern Washington (1-1) at noon and Kansas City (0-2) in the evening, not losing a single set for their season opener.

The Wolverines capitalized on their home-court advantage.

Led by excellent performances by Avery Shewell and Sami Blackett, UVU swept Eastern with relative ease. Shewell led both teams with an impressive 13 kills, while Blackett had nine.

The momentum of the first match win (25-20, 27-25, 25-22) led the Wolverines to start confidently versus Kansas City.

UVU started the first set against Kansas City strong. The Wolverines put together seven unanswered points within the first 15 serves.

After taking the first two sets, UVU aimed to close it out for the evening.

Finally taking the third, the Wolverines finished the night with another win. (25-20, 25-20, 25-23)

“We executed and we hit at a pretty high percentage. I was really proud of them for that,” Utah Valley head coach Sam Atoa said after the day of games. “You want to be able to take some confidence into that, but at the same time, what Bakersfield presents is going to be a little different.”

The Wolverines finish out the Invitational on, Aug. 31, with a final match against Cal State Bakersfield at 2 p.m. MT. Streaming will be provided on ESPN+.
