UVU Women’s Soccer Notches Win at CSU Bakersfield
Wolverines hold onto 3-2 lead for win on the road

Bakersfield, CA – The Utah Valley University women’s soccer team never trailed in a 3-2 victory over the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolverines improved to 12-5-1 overall on the season and 7-1-1 in WAC play while CSUB dropped to 5-11-2 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play.
Breanna McCarter got UVU on the board first with her second goal of the season on a cross from Libby Weber.
Seconds before the close of the first half, the Roadrunners scored the equalizer. Tori VandeHoef chased down a long pass from Bakersfield goalkeeper Tori Ornela and put the ball into the back of the net.
The Wolverines countered with a goal of their own 27 seconds into the second half of play. Sara Callister served a cross into the box for Breanna McCarter, who put her second goal of the match by the keeper to put UVU ahead 2-1.
In the 58th minute, Kali Stubbs put the match out of reach for Bakersfield by cleaning up her own rebound and shooting it past Ornela for a 3-1 UVU lead.
The Roadrunners attempted to get back in the match with a goal by WAC scoring leader Aminah Settles in the 64th minute that made it 3-2.
UVU maintained possession for the majority of the final 26 minutes of play, outshooting Bakersfield three shots to one. The Wolverines out-shot the Roadrunners by a total of 20 to 10 in the match, putting 10 shots on goal. UVU was aggressive trying to get the ball behind the Bakersfield defense, but tallied six offside calls through the course of the match.
The Wolverines currently sit second in the conference standings. UVU will face first place Seattle U on Halloween in Seattle at 8 p.m. MT.
