With practice beginning for the UVU women’s volleyball team, fans can expect the 2009 season to be very thrilling.
“We’ve been in practice for a little over a week now and I feel very good about what the girls did over the summer and can see how it will be very beneficial this season,” said coach Sam Atoa.
As with the rest of the UVU team’s, volleyball will mark their first official conference season with this upcoming campaign. “Were thrilled and excited that were finally in a conference. It’s just a thrill for us to be able to be moving forward,” said Atoa.
Fans will be able to see the Wolverines take on several top teams now that UVU is part of the Great West Conference. “Were excited about the conference and excited that they will be able to compete here,” added Atoa.
Most teams will make goals prior to a season and it’s not any different with UVU’s volleyball team. The Wolverines want to excel off the court as well as on the court. “We want to position ourselves to win the conference as well as maintain a 3.4 GPA and this is a group of girls that will keep striving and not give up,” says Atoa.
UVU’s season gets underway on August 28 and 29 at the Weber State Invitational in Ogden where they will take on Gonzaga, Weber State and Utah State.
Fans can see the first home appearance for the 2009 season beginning September 4 and 5 as the Wolverines host the La Quinta Inn and Suites Invitational where UVU will go up against Washington State, Missouri and Utah.
