On Wednesday night the Utah Valley University wrestling team made their first appearance for the 2014-15 season. The annual Intrasquad Dual and exhibition contest ended in a 24-24 tie.
With the meet tied up at 21-all with just two matches remaining Jade Rauser, two-time NCAA Qualifier, delivered down the stretch for his squad. Rauser, who has bumped up to 133 pounds for the Wolverines this season, scored a late takedown and an additional riding time point to secure the bout over Jarod Maynes. The 8-4 victory put the green team up by thee.
The Intrasquad came down to a battle of heavyweights. The final contest of the evening being between another two-time NCAA Qualifier, Adam Fager, and Dusting Dennison. Both athletes entered the second period scoreless. After a second-period escape, Fager was the first of the pair to get on the scoreboard. Dennison then matched Fager for at the start of the third with an escape as well to tie the match 1-1. Fager, currently ranked 12th nationally by InterMat, picked up a late takedown to seal the match by a score of 3-2 and ended the dual in a 24-all tie.
There were only three wrestlers to record a pair of victories on the evening: Fager, 125-pounder Chasen Tolber, and 165-pounder Dalton Harmon.
The Wolverines will officially being their 2014-15 campaign in Clarion, Pennsylvania, by making an appearance at the Clarion Open on Sunday November 2nd.
