Into the Wild is the true story of a modern day transcendentalist-wanderer, Christopher McCandless, and his personal search for truth and meaning.

Almost immediately after receiving a degree from Emory University, Chris donated $25,000 from his bank account to charity and drove out west, abandoning his car and burning all of the cash in his wallet along the way. He even abandoned his identity, and adopted a new name to match his new life, Alexander Supertramp.

This moving book follows McCandless’ journey of self discovery that eventually leads to his lonely death in an abandoned bus in the Alaskan wilderness. Along with McCandless, we the readers are forced to examine important questions on the true nature of happiness and what in this world is truly important.

Here is an excerpt from the book:

“Two years he walks the earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. An aesthetic voyager whose home is the road. Escaped from Atlanta. Thou shalt not return, ’cause ‘the west is the best.’ And now after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure. The climactic battle to kill the false being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual revolution. Ten days and nights of freight trains and hitchhiking bring him to the great white north. No longer to be poisoned by civilization he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost in the wild.” -Alexander Supertramp; found written on a piece of plywood inside the bus.
