Spring Break Staycation
It’s almost here! Our well-deserved spring break is upon us and plans are underway. If you aren’t going anywhere, don’t sweat it. Here are some ideas to make staying close to home feel more like a getaway.
Salt Lake City
Salt Lake has some beautiful sights and plenty of nightlife. Spend a day exploring the Leonardo Museum’s exhibit for Brain Awareness Week. It is only $12.95 for adults and $8.95 for children. They also have various STEM and Art Saturday activities for kids. If the weather allows, explore nature at Butte Garden or take a trip to the Hogle Zoo. You can enjoy that last bit of snow this season by heading to Snowboard Ski & Summer Resort. Daily lift tickets are between $26 and $96. If you want to stay at the resort, starting rates are $135 with lodging and lift tickets.
Park City
If you want the small-town ski village feel, go to Park City for a day. You can peruse Main Street with its small shops and eateries. You can ski and lodge at the Park City Mountain Resort or you can attend the Park City Film Series, a nonprofit theater that supports independent and local movies.
National Parks
Utah is home to five national parks. Three hours south of campus is Bryce Canyon, the forest of stone. If the weather is still snowy, you can go snowshoeing for free within the park. Just north of Bryce Canyon is Capitol Reef. It has a water pocket fold that stretches 100 miles which is full of canyons, cliffs and other geological wonders. Three hours southeast of campus is Arches National Park, famous for its rock arches and balanced rocks.
Options for camping are available at all the national parks. Horseback riding is available at Zions National Park, as well as hiking, biking and bird watching. Island in the Sky, located in Canyonlands National Park, is one of the most scenic sites in all of Utah.
The weather will be a little warmer in the desert hiking areas; take advantage of the chance to get you up and moving during spring break instead of staying home and watching Netflix. Besides, these places make great Instagram-worthy photos. Staying home for spring break doesn’t have to mean locking yourself in your house. There are plenty of fabulous places for you to explore right here in Utah. Take advantage of the time off and make it a spring break to remember.
