What every woman needs in her wardrobe

I love shopping. I know I come off as a stereotypical girl, but I love it immensely. I’ll let you in on a little secret: it’s also a source of major anxiety in my life. If I buy a new top, in the back of my mind, I find myself worrying about whether or not I’ll be able to wear it next month. Okay, maybe two months.

Don’t get me wrong. I still shop more than I should, and I buy things that I consider to be “in,” but over the last couple years, I’ve tried to be a wiser shopper. That being said, I’ve found wardrobe pieces that seem to never go out of style. I find myself wearing these year after year, and I’ve managed to not make a fool of myself.

I’ve narrowed it down to a list of five essential things every girl should have in her wardrobe.

A boyfriend blazer: I had to make the distinction between a regular women’s blazer. A boyfriend blazer is a little longer and gives a more slimming look, and what girl doesn’t want to look slimmer? Blazers go with everything; you name it, the blazer works. They can dress up anything without going over the top and they always make me feel a bit more sophisticated, even if I’m wearing my baggy white tee and skinny jeans.

Leggings: There is a major reason why I love leggings besides the fact that they’ve been a constant. First, I hate tights or pantyhose, whatever you want to call them. However, I still get cold in the winter, and there are just times a girl needs to cover up her legs. That’s where leggings come in. I just slap them on with a dress or skirt and some boots, and I’m good to go.

Pumps, preferably black: A good pair of pumps go a long way. They make me feel sexy and feminine, and my legs look amazing when I wear them. Any color is great, but black pumps will always be in style. Can you really think of a time when they weren’t?

Good butt jeans: Self-explanatory, but just to make it clear, I’ll go further. Everyone has go-to jeans, and if they don’t, they should. Let’s be clear though, these are not your grandma jeans. My good butt jeans do amazing things for my backside while being incredibly comfortable, as they should be. Who wants sexy pants that you can’t stand to wear? But don’t get it twisted; keep your grandma jeans in the closet where no one can see them.

Leather (or pleather) bomber/motorcycle jacket: I use bomber and motorcycle interchangeably because they are similar enough and both achieve the same look. I remember being in high school fawning over a black leather bomber jacket in a magazine, and that was almost 10 years ago. They fit so well, and who doesn’t look good in cool jacket? They are eternal.

Of course there are many other items that have survived the ages, but these are just a few that never give me an anxiety attack when I purchase them. If I had to pick just one that was an absolute must, I would have to go with the good-butt jeans. Having a great looking derriere is never out of style.
